Other actions had more immediate effects. In 2017, the government began granting licences to women’s gyms for the first time – provided that they were running activities aimed at health and weight loss and steered clear of competitive sports. In early 2018, women finally entered sports stadiums for the first time to cheer on their favourite football teams.
